Making Gyoza & Shopping!
This weekend, I thought it would be cloudy and rainy, which I think is normal weather in London. In Friday’s class, one of my classmates, who is Chinese, brought us a piece of cake. It was traditional Chinese cake for New Year’s Day, and she told us that there would be nice parade in China Town on Saturday.
On Saturday, it was a beautiful day so I decided to go to see the Chinese New Year Parade in Piccadilly Circus. There were so many people that I could hardly see anything, but I heard nice Chinese music and I enjoyed being there.
In China Town, there is so much delicious food. I really love Chinese food. Being in China Town and smelling delicious things, it suddenly made me feel "I WANT TO COOK CHINESE FOOD BY MYSELF!” So I immediately returned home and started to make Gyoza. Usually in Japan, I don't make the outside of Gyoza but this time, I felt like I wanted to cook everything from scratch. I went to a supermarket, bought 2 kinds of flour, and made Gyoza. I knew that the taste of pork in the UK is different from Japan so I was wondering if I could cook it properly and also it took almost 2 hours until I could eat it. However in the end, I DID IT!!! I made super delicious Gyoza that I’d never cooked before. China Town was very nice and I enjoyed it a lot, but I what I really enjoyed on Saturday was making Gyoza by myself!
On Sunday, it was raining but I didn’t want to stay home all day so I went to a Spitalfields Market. I was so surprised to see many beautiful vintage clothes, accessories and paintings in the market. Nothing was that expensive. I bought a nice hat made of cashmere which was much cheaper than buying in shops in central London or in Japan. But what I really liked about this market was the people there. Both sellers and visitors looked so relaxed and happy. I felt the sellers loved what they were doing and were proud of what they sold. The atmosphere in the market was so nice that I thought I could stay there all day! I don’t like places that are too crowded, and that’s why I don’t usually go out to central London during weekends, but this market was different. It might have been because of the weather, but there were a lot of people but it wasn’t too crowded and we are able to find so many interesting things at a good price. I would recommend it to people who haven’t been there yet. I think I would go there again.
What I like about living in London is that I can enjoy myself even if it’s raining all day. I had a nice weekend, experienced new things and I can’t wait for next weekend!
