How To Deal With Exam Stress
Decreasing stress during the exam period in universities
For many students, exams are very stressful. Exam stress is a problem which has some negatives effects on students. They can loose their capacity to think and ruin their chances of doing their exams properly. Helping the students during this period has to be a priority for universities.
One way in which schools can help is to propose a revision timetable. Indeed, most of the time, many students wait until the last minute to review their notes. They try to assimilate one semester's work in one week or less. The consequence of this is that students are exhausted and not able to concentrate while they are studying. Providing a revision timetable before exams would guide students in their revision and help them avoid feeling stressed out the week before.
Another method is that the universities make sure that tutors are available for students who need support. More often than not, they feel frustrated with their courses because they are confused by certain parts. They have questions in their mind and only tutors can bring answers. Perhaps they are focused on some part that is not important and wasting their time. Also, tutors can give additional exercises so that students can practise even more what they have seen in class.
Both of these methods could be effective in preventing students’ stress. However, in my opinion, the most important action is the first one. I believe that the biggest problem is organisation. With good planning, students can be more prepared and face the exams with more confidence.
