A (BOOK) REVIEW - LOOKING FOR ALASKA
Looking for Alaska is a novel for young adults written by John Green. All the main characters are teenagers who study in a boarding school. The novel tells the story of Miles, a young boy who is starting his new life in a different High school where he makes new friends and lives lots of experiences. The story is split into two parts: before and after and there are loads of adventures and mysteries to solve in between the two parts.
The most important characters in the novel are Miles, the principal character, and Alaska. At first, Miles is quite shy but when he starts his new life he makes friends who will eventually help him to overcome his shyness and be more confident such as Alaska, the mysterious and clever girl who makes Miles fall in love. Most of the story is about her and The Colonel (Chip), Miles' roommate and first new friend. He also plays an important role in the novel.
Before reading this book I thought it would totally be the typical boy-meets-girl love story but I gave it a chance and I regret having thought that. It surprised me how much I liked it. Even though the book is aimed at young people I would recommend it for anyone. The story is very real and thoughtful and it shows you "young love" and what growing up is really like. The teenage language and humour make it more enjoyable. If you like love and mystery stories, you will really enjoy this book. All in all, Looking for Alaska is a funny, sad and inspiring story that you will probably love.
