Why Travel?
The experience of travelling
“Travel make one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world,” said Gustave Flaubert and, generally speaking, anyone who likes to travel can confirm this. A trip is more than a simple holiday, it’s a way of learning and growing up. It opens your mind and makes you more responsible and mature.
However for past generations travelling was not so common. Hardly anyone had a car to go around their own country, so we definitely have to say that methods of transport improved in the last century, and while in the past travelling was just for rich and cultured people, now anyone can catch a low-cost flight and see different places.
Travel is not always and just for fun though. Sometimes travelling around the world is part of someone's job. Nowadays it’s common for companies to have offices in other countries, and people are used to travelling and the ability to speak more than one language is being required by more and more businesses.
To summarise, we can say that a trip is a journey out of our comfort zone, a journey to discover the world and to discover ourselves, to understand what we like or what we are able to do. Travelling is for people that can’t be satisfied just with what surrounds them; it’s for eyes that want to see more, it’s for minds that want to understand other cultures. Travelling is for people who don’t want to have regrets.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do,” said Mark Twain. “So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the tailwinds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
