Ex Machina - A review
Technology is changing our lives. If we use the internet, we can find a job, get in touch with a friend or look up something. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) is being discussed by many people such as engineers, researchers or professors and so on. There are mixed opinions about AI, for example, people argue about whether AI is a friend or not.
According to the BBC news, if AI becomes more popular, over 40% of jobs will be lost in the UK.
Ex Machina is a splendid science fiction film. In 2016, the film won an Academy Award for best achievement in visual effects.
Nowadays, the film is being talked about by many people. It’s a gripping film. At the beginning of the film, a man is involved in a weird project in which he lives with a humanoid robot with AI for a week to test it. The man named Caleb who is in his late twenties, is an engineer for a big tech company. He moves to a particular laboratory to take part in the project.
On the first day, when he gets there, he meets the humanoid robot. It's called Ava. He starts living with Ava. The more time goes by, the more intimate the relationship gets. The humanoid robot has an attractive appearance. In five days, he ends up falling in love with it, even though it is a robot. Ava would like to go outside so she tries to deceive Caleb to achieve her goal. It’s easy for her because she has already been able to manipulate Caleb. She manages to get a key for the entrance then Caleb is stuck in the laboratory. Eventually, Ava breaks out of the laboratory.
A conventional way of thinking is that a robot can’t be more intelligent than a human. One well-known professor said that if they improve performance more than now, they’ll be more intelligent than humans. In the near future, we might live with a robot. Personally, I have no idea whether AI is a good friend for humans or not!
