A Spanish Festival - La Feria
The most important month in Sevilla is April. Just two weeks after Easter we celebrate “La Feria de Sevilla” which is a whole week of drinking and eating with family and Friends.
If you want to come, first you need a traditional costume. The women should wear a “gypsy dress”. It is long, tight and ends with ruffles. It will show your body's curves. Your hair has to be tied in a plait, ponytail or whatever you prefer and on top of your head you need to wear a big flower or even a lot of them making a beautiful headband. The men have to wear a suit and a tie but they also have a traditional costume just in case they want to ride a horse.
Then you need to get a “caseta”. It is small place like a restaurant, where you can find food, drinks, toilets and some tables and chairs. The music in most of them is flamenco but you can also find other kinds of music. The Government has created around 1,051 casetas in traditional places, just 6 of them have free entry the rest are private. It means you have to be invited to join and as a member you pay an annual membership fee. There are many members for each caseta.
During the day you can ride a horse or on a horse and carriage but in the night it is not allowed. There are also fairground attractions but I recommend you don't stay during the night, it won´t be a safe place.
“La Feria” starts on Monday night, with “el alumbrao” which is when 237.000 light-bulbs are turned on at 12 o´clock. Before this we have a special dinner, it consists of fried fish and the best ham and cheese. The end is on Sunday night with fireworks!
