Halloween in Tokyo
Halloween is one of the most popular festivals in the world and it is celebrated on 31st of October every year. Halloween is for children is the conventional way of thinking, but nowadays, adults as well as children enjoy dressing up in a costumefor the festival. Some show off in ostentatious costumes and they take pictures and then post them on Instagram, Facebook and so on.
The festival is getting more popular in Tokyo year by year.
Generally speaking, people dress up fancy dress such as Dracula, Frankenstein and so on. In Tokyo, most people pretend they are an anime character instead of the traditional Halloween characters, for example, Pokemon. The reason why is Tokyo is known for its anime, manga and so on. People from all over the world, come to Tokyo to dress up in many different costumes as an anime character for Halloween.
A year ago, my friends and I went for a Halloween party in Tokyo. The city was packed with tourists and younger people on Halloween night. One of my friends dressed up in costumes as Pokemon characters. Even though I’m not keen on Pokemon, I dressed up in a costume as Pikachu, which is a popular anime character, because if I dressed up in the costume, I would get a free drink in some of the pubs during Halloween!
The next morning, we took part in a clean-up as volunteers as we hadn't stayed up all night. Many young people take part in this clean-up as volunteers after Halloween festival every year. It's a very meaningful activity.
Hopefully, I might be able to experience London’s Halloween festivities this year. I’m looking forward to it. Of course, I will probably clean up the town after London's Halloween party!
