An Island called Noirmoutier
Noirmoutier is a little island in France near Nantes. Fifteen years ago it was totally unknown but sadly, it is beginning to get overcrowded during the summer because of all the holidaymakers.
As far as I remember it's the most fabulous place I have ever seen, Noirmoutier is anything but overrated. Early in the morning, you can see the riders swimming in the sea with their horses. And in the evening, nestled on rocks you can see the sea lit by the sunset. After that, take a look at all the clusters of stars in the sky, and the millions of universes which hide in it.
The forest "Bois de la Chaize" is also a part of this unforgettable landscape. Pine cones hurt the feet of the children who venture there, nevertheless this wood is still so awe-inspiring. If you close your eyes, the smell of salt and cut wood makes you travel towards unknown vistas.
When we wanted to chill out, my friends and I used to build huge crackling fires on the beach, magically mixing red and orange. Taking advantage of heat, we warmed ourselves while eating roasted marshmallows.
The heart of the city is much less picturesque but still attractive. Houses are all white with red tiled roofs and blue shutters, typical of this region in France. You can take advantage of these lively streets to hit the shops and eat ice creams near the port. From there, you will hear the song of old sailors who smell of pipes, added to the banging of shrouds. You could almost believe that you were going back to the time of princesses and knights....
