Miriam From Germany!
My name is Miriam I am nineteen years old and I live in a small village in Thuringia, Germany. I enjoyed growing up in a rural area, there I was able to get to know the nature around me and have pets.
I have one lovely big brother, called Fabian and he is 25 years old. Both of my parents are working and my brother is studying to become a teacher at a grammar school in Germany. I regularly look after my godson who just two years old and for me he is kind of my little brother and I treat him like this. Family is very important for me, because when my family is around me I feel like I am at home.
When I graduated from my German grammar school, Dr.Konrad Duden in Schleiz, last June I decided to become an au pair and take the chance to look after children and to support them in every way. It is always fun to be around them, see how they learn and discover their everyday world. That’s why I have decided against the opportunity to go to university right after school, because staying abroad was what I really wanted. And what I can say now is that it was the right decision to be an au pair abroad in the UK.
Since I was ten years old I have been learning English as a second language in school. I did my A-levels in English last June when I graduated from the German grammar school in Schleiz, Germany. Now I can improve my English skills while I am an au pair here in London. In Germany education (learning English included) is compulsory for all children who are resident in Germany aged six years to sixteen years old, although education generally lasts until the age of eighteen years.
I am a quiet creative person and like to do handicrafts. I am also used to spending some of my free time helping my grandparents in their little restaurant in Germany. There I learned to love cooking and baking. My hobbies include reading, sports, travelling and many more. At the weekend, most of my free time is spent exploring London or meeting some other au pairs.
