Being Tech Free!

I’m not a stranger at all to being tech free. Every week I’m tech free for at least 1 day. On Shabat we don’t use any electrical stuff and the like, nothing electrical. All the electricity we use is turned on previously before Shabat starts. No screens, videos, computers, ipads, mobile phones or phones. 100% tech free!

Sometimes Shabat and Holy Holidays are one after the other so we can get to up to 3 days electric and tech free! How does it feel? Well, for me it’s a liberating sensation. It means I have control over my ipad, even though when it’s not Shabat and Holy Holidays I can be very addicted to it. I open it all the time to know the news and what is going on around the world.

I can enjoy a book without being disturbed by the curiosity of looking at the ipad to see if there’s something new. My husband and I can enjoy a conversation with no tech interruption. We can enjoy our friends, who are also electrical tech free for those days, without any other concern but to enjoy our meal and company, with our full attention right there in the moment. It’s really liberating.

Can you survive? Yes, and my birthday will be in one month, so it’s going to be one more year tech free for at least one day in the week completed. It’s good training to exercise will power. I'm not a tech slave. I use technology, the technology doesn’t control me. Technology is something important to improve life, not to substitute for it!
