Happy Doughnut Day 🍩🍩🍩!

Daria told us today that on the Thursday before Ash Wednesday Polish people eat lots of doughnuts! They eat them plain or with fillings such as chocolate, jam or cheese. Doughnuts are called 'paczki' in Polish.

Doughnuts are eaten today because very soon the Christian festival of Lent will start. During Lent, people who celebrate this festival usually fast or give things that they like up, for example, chocolate. They do this for 40 days. Doughnut day is when Polish people use up all their fat, eggs and dairy products before they start giving things up.

We enjoyed Daria's doughnuts- they were yummy!

Thank you Daria😊
