Could You Be A Carer For The Elderly?

Do you think that your country's healthcare system for the elderly is well-regulated? I used to work in a nursing home as a carer in Japan. To be honest, there were many kinds of problems. Some of them concerned the elderly and some concerned the people who looked after the elderly. I always think that I would like to sort out these problems.

Nowadays, the number of elderly people is increasing. We are supposed to give the elderly enough care and support, but sadly there are many people who don't get that. 'It is because of money' most people say. However, in my opinion, it is not just money and we can find a lot of ways to help them. I haven't found any yet, although I am in London now and my English school is multinational so if I ask my friends about it, there might be a way to find some ways!!

On the other hand, carers also have many problems. The most serious thing is no one wants to be a carer. This job is called 'dirty' 'hard' and 'dangerous' in Japan. Actually, it is true. For example, if the elderly can't move, we have to transfer them to a wheelchair. The elderly person's weight causes backache and it makes them so hard to carry. Luckily, my nursing home had a special machine to help to transfer the elderly residents. It looks like there is a lack of warmth, but while we transfer them, we can talk with the elderly and we can see their faces. As a result of using this machine, we continue to work without pain.

'Caring' could be your next job due to an increase in the population of elderly people and you are going to be elderly in the future. It is good idea to think about it now.
